Congrats to ISTC-PC and UW Professor Shyam Gollakota on being named to MIT Technology Review’s 2014 TR35 list of 35 innovators under 35. Shyam was honored for his research using RF as a human gesture detector and his innovative work on ambient backscatter. Shyam joined the UW faculty in 2012 and joined the ISTC-PC in 2014. Congrats Shyam !

Congrats to Ga Tech and ISTC-PC faculty member Gregory Abowd and the Ubiquitous Computing Research Group at Ga Tech on being named to Atlanta Magazine’s annual “Innovation Index.” Gregory and colleagues were featured in the November, 2013 issue.
Congrats to UW and ISTC-PC professor Shwetak Patel, ISTC-PC and UW student Sidhant Gupta, and UW professor Shyam Gollakota and UW student Qifan Pu on their BEST PAPER AWARD at this week’s Mobicom 2013 in Miami, Florida! The paper “Whole Home Gesture Recognition Using Wireless Signals” discusses their breakthrough work in detecting specific gestures via WiFi, i.e., turning Wifi into a gesture sensor.
